Target Center Information

After 27 months of construction, the Target Center, located in Minnesota, opened it's doors in October 1990 as a $104 million facility. The Target Center was the first major arena in America to be designated as a non-smoking facility.

Situated on more than 831,000 square feet, the Target Center claims to be the premier sports and entertainment facility in the Upper Midwest. Each year, fans pack the house to see professional basketball, music concerts, family shows and a variety of other events.

The Target Center's fan amenities include more than 70 exit doors, 10 floors, the presence of one of the largest neon sculptures in America, more than 20 concession stands to offer a variety of dining choices, etc.

In addition, the Target Center features one of only two moveable arena floors, which can be fully raised or lowered in less than 30 minutes, in the United States. Seating accommodations are suited for up to 18,467 spectators with 114 wheelchair seating located throughout the arena.

Home to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, the Target Center also features a fan shop for spectators. Whether it be a pursuit for officially licensed souvenirs, apparel or collectibles, The Timberwolves/Lynx Gym is the team store to visit while at the Target Center.

Located on the skyway level of the Target Center, fans can shop during normal business hours and also during any home game.

Management at the Target Center has changed hands on more than one occasion, but fans can still continue to expect much of the same excellence as has always been present here. In March 1995, the Target Center was sold by Marv Wolfenson and Harvey Raftner, the original owners, to the City of Minneapolis. In September 2000, SFX Entertainment acquired management for the Target Center.

In early 2001, however, SFX Entertainment was purchased by Clear Channel Entertainment. In May 2004, Midwest Entertainment Group replaced Clear Channel Entertainment as a joint venture between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Nederlander Concerts.
